Self-Love is NOT Selfish!

Hello Beautifuls!

Self-Love has lost it’s luster somewhere along the line and I’m hoping that we can turn that around ASAP.

Self-Love is NOT Selfish!  Self-Love is not preening in the mirror 24/7 and ignoring everyone else.  Self-Love is about recognizing your needs (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social) and taking action to make sure your needs are met.

Unless you still live at home with a Mom and Dad who do everything for you, you hafta start taking care of you.  Getting up and dressed everyday is an act of self-love.  It says, “Good day world, I’m ready to meet you!”

Saying ‘No’ to a project that you know will tax or drain your energy reserves is an act of self-love.  Moving your body and eating live, whole foods is an act of self-love that lets your body know you care about its health and well-being.  Taking quiet moments of introspection, meditation, or prayer daily is an act of self-love.

All of these things are easy.  All of these things we KNOW we SHOULD do but for some reason can’t find the time or energy or resources to do them.  Or…we do them with a disconnected heart and just move through the motions.

Lets heal the disconnect.  Lets repair the negative connotation that self-love is selfish.  Lets be the change we want to see in our kids.  Lets be RADICAL and BRAVE and OUT THERE and LOVE ourselves for who we are.  Wrinkles, muffin tops, stretch marks, too big of this and too small of that and ALL!

Look in the mirror, place your hand on your heart and tell yourself out loud “I LOVE YOU!  I love you, I love you, I love you SOO much!  Thank you for always being there, thank you for always working, thank you for putting up with me ignoring you.  Forgive me for not noticing you, neglecting you, for not getting enough sleep or eating good foods, forgive me for only finding fault in the mirror instead of your glorious beauty. From here on out I promise I will take better care of you because I LOVE YOU!”

Have a conversation with yourself and heal that disconnection.  Record it so you can hear it over and over again to remind yourself that you’re on your side.  Write in your journal your promise of Self-Love and read it everyday, say it out loud to the universe and anyone that will hear you.

Love yourself…no one else can do it for you!
